You know that feeling when you get to a place which you know you’re going to be comfortable and relaxed? Castle Rock Hideaway offers that in Mauston, WI, at the southwest corner of Castle Rock Lake. I first met Cindy in 2021 when preparing to leave for a yearly fishing trip with my dad, cousin, and uncle. Our prior reservation at another place got bumped and we were on the search for a replacement, fast. I rang Cindy and in short notice, she was able to accommodate our stay and the kindness she offered is not often found any more. We arrived on Friday afternoon and stayed through Monday. We stayed in one of the front cottages and had a great weekend, we didn’t hesitate to book again for this year.

Less than a mile away is the boat ramp on to Castle Rock Lake, and a few local restaurants and bars. We really enjoyed grilling at the cottage, visiting with fellow patrons, and relaxing in the outdoors. We were able to get our minnows on site at her bait shop and had ample room for parking the trucks with boats out front. I knew when I had the opportunity to suggest a place for our friends ice fishing trip this year (which Dustin wrote about) I knew I wanted to recommend a stay at Castle Rock Hideaway.

During our ice fishing trip, we stayed in Cabin 12, this has 3 bedrooms and plenty of space for all of our gear and vehicles out front. Cabin 12 is amongst the larger cabins in the back, tucked away from the road. During the winter months, they do close the Bait Shop so considering a nearby shop which you can find on Maxwells is recommended. We were fortunate enough to have gotten the opportunity to go with Jesse at Green Water Walleyes so bait and tackle was not an issue for that trip whatsoever.

Overall, Castle Rock Hideaway has many amenities they offer beyond the studio, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom cottages and cabins. Each has heat and A/C, a charcoal grill, fully furnished kitchen, all the utensils and linens for your stay, and plenty of parking around the cabins. They also have 11 acres which you can walk amongst, a private pond on-site, a playground and activities for kids and the close relativity to the boat launch and beach. If you are looking for a classic cabin stay near good fishing, contact Castle Rock Hideaway for a weekend away.
