A few weeks back we had the opportunity to get out on the ice with Jesse Quail of Green Water Walleye Guide Service. This particular weekend there was an ice fishing tournament happening. He knew it was going to create a lot of pressure on both Petenwell & Castle Rock Lake. As a good guide would, he took us to a few of his hotspots on one of the surrounding area lakes.
Jesse had us set up and going in no time. He had pre-fished during the week prior to our arrival so we wouldn’t have to move around much to find the fish. Within the first 2 minutes of drilling the first hole we had a crappie on. We set up our pop-up there and fished for the next few hours. Most of the fish were on bottom so Jesse provided us with some electronics and gear to make sure we were successful.

As we continued to catch fish, Jesse was out scouting other areas to setup when the bite slowed down. When he returned, we moved down the lake to a new hole with some more structure. Not long after that we were back on crappies and even a few bass.
It was a pretty cold day but Jesse stood outside and grilled us brats, beans, and chips. He made sure there was plenty to go around. After lunch we got back to fishing and telling old stories. By late afternoon we decided to pack up after a very fun and successful day out on the ice. Lucky for us we were back to our cabin at Castle Rock Hideaway before the snow squal hit. All in all we took home about 25 keepers, but caught far more.

While talking with him you can tell how much work he puts in to make sure his customers have a successful trip. As a year-round guide it provides him the knowledge to know where all of the structure is. He pays attention to where trees have fallen during the open water season, creating a good habitat for the fish. Green Water Walleye is a full-service guide who provides all the equipment necessary and ensures you have a memorable trip. Give him a call if you’d like to set up your next adventure!
